The Pisgah Eagles were winners last Friday night against No. 1-seeded Rogers, 17-14. Blaine Smith nailed a field goal at the end of the game to send the Eagles to the second round for the first time since 2003.
Pisgah will travel to region foe and rival Plainview in round two.
Plainview upended the Eagles in this season's earlier matchup, 28-7 at Pisgah. The Eagles fell victim to the Bears following Plainview being upset by Sylvania in week one.
Last week, Pisgah's rushing attack was the key to victory. Jeb Woods rushed for 124 yards and was the workhorse for the offense.
Defensively, the Eagles allowed just 259 total yards.
Both Pisgah and Plainview are vying for a spot in the AHSAA quarterfinals, a place neither team has been in quite some time.
The Eagles last made the third round in 2002, when they fell to Lineville in the semi-finals. The Bears have not tasted the quarterfinals since Dale Pruitt's final season in his first stint with Plainview, 2000. The Bears lost to Colbert County that season, the same team it defeated last week.
Pisgah is 6-17 all-time against the Bears, but their last victory was in 1988.
